Making a living

Collecting unwanted cans & cartons along the streets, then sell "collection" to be recycled. Though the income is slender, to me, they're greater than those earning huge while abusing our environment...
Another one I did with Picasa2 - Focal B&W.

Focal Length : 70mm
Shutter Speed : 0.001s(1/1250)
Exposure : f/4.5
ISO : 200
Picasa Effects Function : Focal B&W

this is a very touching and emotional photo, it shows us something that alot of us tend to and will take advantage of, I believe that it also shows us the means that most of us have to do to make what choices we need in life to survive, ariel thank you for sharing this photo with us very well done

Well done Ariel!. This photo and coloring works for me as well. The colors put a lot of emphasis on the subject matter. I really like what you've accomplished in this photo, great composition and statement. -Jon

Nice job snake. I haven't learned layering, but I like the colorization. Like how you cropped to the tops of the car, and the shawdow of the cart which isolates your subject matter. Keep up the good work :)

You have captured a wonderful image here that makes a big statement about the globalized and materialistic world we live in. This is a wonderful example of what photography is really all about...not perfect techs and settings (although they are well executed in this shot), but as a running social commentary, a moment captured in time that reflects the way we live in and treat the world. The really great images always tell a story or evoke emotion, it may be different for everybody but that's what make them so great. Your use of selective colouring with BW works well to highlight your subject, there is an air of elegance about the woman wearing the hat that suggests she is much more than her occupation suggests. Well done here Ariel.

I am not going to lie. I have never been a fan of adding color into a picture that is black and white. But You did a remarkable job with it!! I am very impressed and you have changed my feelings on this. I love the behind shot of them all on their bikes, With or curiosity focused on to what is in the back of the cart!
Well done and keep up the fabulous work.

This is a wonderful and moving photograph. I agree with you, sometimes it is the ones earning the least doing the most for the rest...not always, but I sure appreciate your story in this one...keeping the color in the basket just emphasizes the haul for their work..thanks very much for sharing

I like the desaturation of all but the subject but you know that already. This reminds me of my stay in the Philippines. Every morning this lady would go through the trash before it would be picked up. I would observe what she would take. I assure you that I had a new found perspective on the teaching of my father "Waste not, want not." I have great respect for these that perform such a function in society. Thank you for this. - Scooter -

very cool! I like the way you made this picture black and white and only colored in the boxes and cans in the wagon. It makes you notice the wagon.and take a closer look at the back of the driver. Scott

Nice work here, Arial, with selective desaturation. This adds to the effect of an already effective image. Great shot. Cheers. Karl.
