Taking off...

I went to this place for fishing, but then I saw this "companion" alone there. Like other animals I've encountered in this country, some are so "well-protected" in cage, some so carefree. As this one, I can see there're some damage to the feather & might have been abused by some playful kids/lads...

I don't think he was abused. Probably just moulting time. I have raised many birds in my lifetime, and sometimes they can get pretty ratty looking. Hopefully that is it. I do like the shadows in this picture but I am not sure why some of the boards are so wavy. It detracts from the picture somewhat.

When you look at this bird, you do wonder how he got that way. It could also be from the other birds. Nice capture of the bird ready for take off. Nice coloring. I feel that possibly some of the boards look a little out of focus or do the boards a rail look like that. By the way, congratulations on pick of the day. Dianne

Good capture. I think that if you had been able to crouch down that it may have worked better for you to have caught some horizon or so. I do think that you've shot this with good timing. That is hard to do sometimes. I do like the water for a transition and b/g as it helps bring out the detail of the pelican. Thanks for sharing Ariel. - Scooter -

Wow, don't you want to sit on his back and have some fun flying?! Good job on this lonely fisherman. To bad we can't see his face. and the wavy boards, I know is the up load from cheapy PC. Well done girl! Anne-Marie

nice focus and timing birds tend to move very quick and can be hard to keep in focus must of been a hot day the waves on the boards look like heat rizing off the dock if you could of shot fromm a lower angle you might of got a little of the sky and a little less of the dock but very nice shot

Areil, nice shot but I wish I could see more of the front of the take off. I sure you had to take it fast to get it at all, so I do understand. I agree with the others, the boards look distorted but the bird is focused so it must be the heat or something. One trick I learned about shooting birds is take your time. Generally they will return to their same roost. Fred

Its great to capture birds when they are about to take off, it looks so wonderful when they do that. Since it was on a rail and displays a shadow, I would prefer to see that to complete the shot. I can see you getting close to the bird with the camera sideways. Then it decides to take off, what do you do? Take it now, because it will be gone :)croc
